Farm to Food Court

Red Hook, Brooklyn
Red Hook was one of Brooklyn’s first settlements, named after the red soil and hook shape settlers found upon arrival. It originated as a prominent docking location employing primarily African American dockworkers. Due to low rent costs and transportation isolation, Red Hook gained a strong sense of community and solidarity. It has become a tightly knit makers town fi lled with local culture, artist spaces, and small businesses. The site is at the core of the originating neighborhood and waterfront attraction. It is surrounded by museums, galleries, restaurants, and bars, and is directly across from the only major grocery store. The idea grew to have a series of restaurants directly supported by in-house farming to fuel local economic growth, connect the community to nearby programming, and provide a unique dining experience for locals and visitors.
