BIOM Lifecycle Analysis
Net Carbon of a Bryoremediation Integrated Oxygen Module
People spend most of their lives indoors, therefore indoor air quality (IAQ) is an important factor for human health and productivity. IAQ is negatively affected by the penetration of outside air pollutants and by pollutants produced indoors from daily activities like heating, cooling, and cooking. Harmful pollutants like particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and CO2 lower indoor air quality and are responsible for 4% of deaths in the United States. Botanical biofiltration is a growing field that has the potential to reduce indoor air pollutants while decreasing the risks of colds, viral diseases, respiratory diseases, and heart diseases. Bioremediation Integrated Oxygen Module (BIOM) is a botanical biofilter that uses moss to improve IAQ while lowering HVAC energy loads.
